Teaching

Piano

I offer private piano instruction for ages 5 to adult. Lessons cover age and ability-appropriate technique, performance, theory, and music history. First and foremost, making music should be fun. Although I expect students to take their study seriously, I don’t want it to become a chore. Music should always be joyful. My main goal is to guide students towards a regular practice routine that is both fun and builds their musical skills.

Low Brass

I have played and studied trombone for 25 years and offer private instruction in low-brass. My specialty is trombone, but I will also teach euphonium and tuba on request.

Music for Tots

I teach a Friday morning music class for kids age 0-30 months. Through a combination of singing, dancing, and instruments kids will develop a sense of rhythm, beat, and intonation. Plus, there are many other developmental benefits to musical education! (A great article can be found here: Beyond Twinkle Twinkle: Using Music with Infants and Toddlers)

Winter 2020 class is enrolling now and runs Friday mornings, 10-10:45am from January 17th-February 28th, with a break on February 21st. Class meets in Pipestone Music on the 2nd floor of the MVCC. $50 for the session, plus $30 for each additional sibling.

Fees for Private Lessons

Lessons are $100/month for weekly 30-minute lessons. This averages out to 4 lessons per month after accounting for months with 5 lessons and studio closures for holidays. Longer lesson times are available as well, but I recommend beginning with 30 minutes unless the student is of an intermediate to advanced level.

Tots classes run in 6-week sessions and are $50 for the first child and $30 each for any siblings. Classes are subject to a minimum enrollment of 3 students.
